Child sexual abuse is so often a contributing factor in parricides, we must understand it in order to put these horrific incidents into perspective and develop wise and appropriate responses to the murder of a parent or adult “caregiver.”

I am therefore thankful to have received permission from Dr. Sam Vaknin to reprint his excellent article as today’s guest post.

The Roots of Pedophilia

by Sam Vaknin

Pedophiles are attracted to prepubescent children and act on their sexual fantasies. It is a startling fact that the etiology of this paraphilia is unknown. Pedophiles come from all walks of life and have no common socio-economic background. 1. No I dont feel the image needs to removed. If you find it unsettling due to nature in which it is used with the topic, then its doing what it is supposed to do. If the image were used with a positive subject, then I doubt if one would find the image as ‘unsettling’….more to the point, this story was ‘reblogged’ from another blog that deal with children and parricides, so it is not mine to edit. Btw- we all work with children in many aspects; and also, the photo is an animated photo and not a video.

  2. I was trying to say in my last attempt to comment that as a social worker who works with children, I could not get past that image–I wondered whether the child in the video was enduring a form of abuse in order to produce the video. We don’t need to see images that appear to illustrate a violation of a child’s boundaries in order to get the point. I hope you will remove this image and I hope the child in the image was neither being abused nor exploited in order to produce it.

  3. I hope you will remove the above image/video of an adult hand caressing the cheek of a child. It is disturbing and unsettling. Was this child being abused by having to endure these touches for the purpose of producing the video? As a social worker who works with children, I could not get past my concerns about this video and the child in this video, to focus on the article.
